Approximately 20% of Costa Rican families live in poverty, according to the latest household survey from the National Statistics and Census Institute (INEC). Public assistance to poor families is unfortunately not enough, and therefore some non-governmental institutions try to help them as well by searching job options and education opportunities, and by organizing campaigns to collect non-perishable food items.
In this activity, the group splits into sub-groups in charge of assorting food supplies, assembling boxes according to a grocery list for each family, and labelling each box as per its contents. Participants also have the chance to write a card with an inspiring message for the family receiving the groceries.
